The Isle Of Love

It's often difficult to convey the realities of living on the edge, here in the Outer Hebrides. Social media is full of beautiful beaches, bright sunshine and wonderful wildlife, but islanders are as prone to the same ups and downs of life as people anywhere else.

Islanders are also always changing, some move here to find themselves, others leave to begin new journeys. But all the while the island remains, the one constant in a sea of humanity which naturally ebbs and flows over time.

We’re pleased to be sponsoring and supporting a new theatre production called ‘The Isle of Love’ which explores some of these themes, telling a bittersweet tale of love and loss, recovery and discovery, all set on a Scottish island not unlike our own.

The play has been produced by Right Lines Productions, a Moray-based company with a strong reputation for delivering accessible, issue-based theatre. The company has been writing, producing and touring original comedy theatre productions for more than fifteen years.

Inspired by the music of indie-band Randolph’s Leap, their new play delves deep into the reasons people choose to visit, to remain, to depart and to return to such remote islands, and there are plenty of laughs, tears and good music along the way.

Opening last month at Eden Court in Inverness, the tour has already been performed in over a dozen venues and will be playing to a sold out crowd in Glasgow on Saturday night at the CCA. The reviews so far have been exceptional…

"Absolutely brilliant. So feel-good. Touching and funny. Wonderful songs!"
“Excellent music and performances from a multi-talented cast."
“Really, really enjoyed the show. Quirky and poignant. Fabulous mix of music from very talented artists.”
“A wonderful snapshot of the intricacies of island life.”
“There's not enough room to say all the nice things I have to say about this fantastic show!"
"Absolutely fab! Music was amazing and beautiful. A play that had everything. Loved the humour and a very talented bunch of actors and musicians.”

The final leg of the tour brings the six-strong cast and their crew back to the source of all this island inspiration, as they head for the Isles of Skye, Lewis, and our home village of Tarbert here in the Isle of Harris.

We’re looking forward to seeing them on Thursday 14th of June at the Tarbert Community Centre and highly recommend you join us, or try to find a performance near you if you can.

You might even find a glass of Isle of Harris Gin waiting to get you in the isle of loving spirit!
