Our Tarbert Team

Our distillery first began life with the original Tarbert Ten, a group of local men and women who now form the foundation for the day to day running of the Isle of Harris Distillery.

Heading up the spirit production is Kenny Maclean, a crofter from Strond and an ex-engineer. Working with him are Domhnall Macleod, a builder by trade; Billy Fraser, a time-served joiner; and Donnie Macleod a former facilities manager. Finally, we have our newest recruit, Norman Ian Mackay, the fifth local distiller to be trained here.

We're also proud to have recruited our first female distilling apprentice, Rebekah Morrison, who will be joined by a second trainee in 2019.

Our commercial manager Shona Macleod leads the guest team, setting out to give a warm island welcome to all our visitors, while Kate Preston, a proud South African girl, takes care of the Canteen alongside her dedicated team.

We have Alexander Macleod, who hails from Scalpay, running our retail area and Sandra Fraser, a Seilebost girl who is principle guide for our distillery tours.

In the office there’s Peter Kwasniewski, originally from Poland, Angus MacSween who blows off steam playing bagpipes, Ruth Macleod, Maggie Christopher and Kath MacDonald who has recently moved to the island.

There are many others here too, from Mairi Mackenzie who bakes all our great Canteen cakes and scones, to people like Stephen Passmore, Murdo Macleod, John Sutton from our offsite dispatch team, and a vibrant group of young people all drawn from our local community.

We have been delighted to build this strong team, more than doubling the number of staff since we began. Together, we work with a crofting ethos, everyone turning their hand to any task they can help out with.

It's a real Isle of Harris family and we hope to keep growing as the years go by, passing on new skills, knowledge, and experience from generation to generation.
