World Whisky Day 2017

This Saturday is World Whisky Day, an annual celebration of uisge beatha, Scotland’s famous ‘water of life'. It’s a great chance to enjoy a dram in good company at events all across the globe, so we’re delighted to be organising a day of tastings, tours and good tunes here at the Isle of Harris Distillery too.

We’ll be welcoming some young, local musicians to our fireside and extend an invitation to anyone who would like to come and play some toe-tapping, traditional Scottish music alongside. There will also be spirit tastings throughout the day, both our island gin and new-make whisky spirit, each accompanied by input from our knowledgeable staff.

We’re running extra tours, one every hour, throughout the day. Our hour-long tours are a fun, hands-on, sensory experience and an excellent way to learn more about the distillery story and the work we do. For WWD, all proceeds from the tours will be going to the 'Feis Na Hearadh' fundraising appeal.

Feis Na Hearadh’ is an annual celebration of gaelic music and song for our young people here in Harris, but a recent devastating fire in their storage space in Scalpay has destroyed many of the musical instruments they use. With music in our island blood, we’re keen to help support their cause and help them replace what had been lost and damaged.

So, we hope lots of you can come along on the day and help us raise money while enjoying some great Hearach company. We’re very much looking forward to the day we’ll be able to raise a glass of ‘The Hearach’ single malt whisky in celebration but meantime let’s toast to the joys of the journey.

Wherever you are in world on World Whisky Day, we hope you have a great dram to hand and can join with us, and the global whisky-loving community, in the very best of spirits.
