World Gin Day 2017

This Saturday, June 10th, is World Gin Day, a chance to celebrate all that is good about juniper spirits and, of course, our Isle of Harris Gin. Founded by Neil Houston in 2009, the idea behind the event was simply to bring his friends together to drink good gin on one special day of the year.

This simple idea has blossomed, and the event is now run by Emma Stokes, the blogger behind Gin Monkey, evolving into a truly global celebration with events happening in over 30 countries around the world, reaching over 50 million people across social channels.

For our part in the celebrations, we’ll be holding a series of special guided Isle of Harris Gin tastings in the Flavour Room of the distillery in the afternoon, helping guests to identify and understand the flavour notes, aromas and ingredients as we build a perfect Harris G&T.

There will also be a new Isle of Harris Gin cocktail being served in the Canteen throughout the day, a sneak preview of our Hebridean Celtic Festival mix of Harris Gin, Elderflower and Cloudy Lemonade.

And there’s some excellent local produce on offer to accompany all this wonderful spirit too, as Amhuinnsuidhe Castle Estate Products and Bays of Chocolate from Finsbay join us, and our own Irene and Marie lay on great baking, with a gin twist, for you to buy and take home.

We’re also celebrating with new friends a little further afield. Our Scottish Ambassador Emma O’Bryen will be hosting an afternoon of Isle of Harris Gin tastings at the wonderful Champany Inn in Linlithgow, where she’ll be sharing our story, as well as plenty of our island spirit.

On the same day, we're delighted to be launching a new Isle of Harris G & Tea for the summer at the rather cool Soho Hotel in London, which will be running until the 3rd of September. Afternoon Tea will feature Isle of Harris Gin infused savouries, such as botanical cured salmon, and Seaweed and Cheddar scones, and all complemented by a delicious Isle of Harris Gin cocktail to complete the experience.

Wherever you are in the world on World Gin Day, we hope you can participate in a great gin event, or two, as well. And if not, feel free to be with us in spirit by keeping an eye on our Social Media for stories, photos and a live feed from some of the day’s events here in the heart of Harris.
