Our New Scottish Ambassador

This week we are delighted to announce the appointment of our new Isle of Harris Distillery ambassador for Scotland. Please meet 26 year old Emma O’Bryen from the beautiful city of Edinburgh, who shone through among over one hundred applications for this exciting job.
Emma grew up in the country near Crieff, Perthshire and has a strong background in the drinks industry, working in wine marketing and most recently with independent retailer Vino Wines in Edinburgh. She’s also written food and drinks reviews for the List Magazine on this, her favourite subject. She also loves our spirit…
“During a stay at the Three Chimneys on Skye, I ordered my first taste of Harris Gin and savoured every sip whilst I looked out at the sea, to me, it truly was a piece of paradise, the perfect gin in a beautiful setting.”
Emma was inspired to write to us to offer her services, just at the moment we were announcing our search for a new ambassador, so her timing could not have been better. After a lengthy interview process, the job was finally hers. She tells us…

“I received a call from Simon Erlanger offering me the position and, in simple terms, I was ECSTATIC! I couldn’t wait to get started and don’t think I slept properly for a week with all the excitement and ideas running through my head!”

Emma’s first assignment was to visit our distillery here in Tarbert this week to meet the rest of the team and begin learning more about us and the work we do.
“This is my second visit to the island, I visited once as a child when my parents brought me, but I must say it is even more magical and beautiful than I remembered. The team here are creative, hard-working and very resourceful, a wonderful example to me of how I aim to work. I will feel quite emotional leaving the island this time and feel I am embarking on a very special journey.”

Emma’s role will be a diverse one, building and maintaining relationships with our bar and restaurant partners, ‘nurturing belonging’ and spreading the word about Isle of Harris Distillery to new places. She will also be involved in lots of events, from gin festivals to tastings and exhibitions.
“I hope to be able to embrace everything that the distillery has already built in terms of connections and relationships, which form the perfect foundation for me to spread the word about our Gin, and also pave the way for the release of our whisky in a few years’ time.”

We welcome Emma to the Harris family and are delighted to have her join us on our journey. Look out for her across Scotland as we continue to grow and we’ll be sharing more of her story as the new role develops.
