A New Year

Simon Erlanger, Managing Director of the Isle of Harris Distillery.

" At the beginning of the week, we opened our distillery doors for the first time this year, as the team in Tarbert returned to work, well rested after the festive season and raring to go in 2018.

Early on Tuesday morning, we all gathered in the Canteen to fuel up on good coffee and discuss our plans for the coming twelve months.

I was delighted to express my pride in all the team’s achievements in 2017, particularly the hard work required to meet demand for our Isle of Harris Gin and the laying down of lots more spirit into casks for our future single malt whisky, The Hearach.

We reflected on our role within the community here in the Isle of Harris, and the privilege of being able to welcome so many visitors to the island and share our work and wider ambitions for the place we are proud to call home.

Last year brought the usual challenges of a growing business but with one of our core values of ‘Nurturing Belonging’ to the fore, the team supported each other throughout, bringing a strong ‘croft distillery’ attitude to bear as we rose to meet them together.

We’re excited about all that lies ahead and our purpose remains clearer than ever, to make this special distillery a sustainable success, not just for ourselves but for our community. Our goals lie beyond just creating jobs for today as we look to bring prosperity to future generations too.

Thank you for playing your part in helping us realise such goals and we look forward to sharing even more of our story with you as we grow.

Onwards and upwards! "

- Simon
