The Last Sleigh From Harris


As the festive season gets underway, winter winds are blowing in and the Outer Hebrides is bracing itself for another blast of wild weather.

The distillery halls are decked and all is calm and bright, with the warmth of a peat fire burning in our hearth, and fragrant candles and fairy lights a-flickering. 

Our traditional tree is complemented by an Isle of Harris Gin version, made of 165 beautifully lit bottles in the distillery Shop, and the Canteen is plying Kate's delicious homemade mulled Isle of Harris Gin (see recipe below) and mince pies too.


   


We’re looking forward to this Saturday’s festive family day, as we welcome our community in to celebrate the season with a special fireside appearance by a certain Mr Claus after the annual village Santa Run.

Meantime, our own elves are hard at work behind the scenes making sure every customer order is well met, ready to swiftly send to all the good girls and boys in time for the big day.

But at this time of year, even the most magical modes of transport can struggle to cross the rough seas of The Minch. Because we distill, bottle, wrap, pack and ship every order from here in the small village of Tarbert, delivery sometimes takes a little longer than most places.

Kate's Mulled Isle of Harris Gin Recipe

100 ml Isle of Harris Gin
600 ml Apple Juice
3 tbsp Honey - adjust according to taste
Zest of 1 Orange
3 Cinnamon Sticks
12 Cloves
4 Star Anise
1 tbsp Ground Ginger

Method:

Heat all ingredients EXCLUDING the Isle of Harris Gin in a pan and bring to a gentle simmer until aromatic, then strain.

Stir in the Isle of Harris Gin just before serving so that you can taste the botanical flavours and you don't burn off any alcohol.

Serve with Orange Zest and a Cinnamon Stick.
