An Ambassador To London
Posted on: 28th April, 2017
Though far removed from the peace and quiet of our island home, London’s loudly calling!
With a population of 8.6 million people, and covering an area which would swallow Harris whole, London is one of the most exciting food and drink-obsessed cities in the world. So, we’re now answering its challenge and setting out to share our island story and spirit with this marvellous, multi-cultural metropolis.
On Tuesday night we made our first foray into London life, hosting an intimate gathering of new friends, drawn from the world of food and drink journalism, from talented writers to the best bloggers, as well as a couple of special friends from the hospitality world, at the newly opened Scotland House on Embankment.
With the help of London Evening Standard’s Douglas Blyde, we took the opportunity to tell our tale, of a remote distillery making beautiful spirit at the far north-west edge of the British map. For some, it was the first time they'd heard of the Isle of Harris, for others it was a welcome re-connection.
We also let our Isle of Harris Gin do the talking as head distiller Kenny Maclean led a guided tasting, apothecarist Amanda Saurin showed how our Sugar kelp Aromatic Water can add even more maritime magic and Douglas undertook a martini masterclass, as guests explored the potential of our unadulterated gin.
The event was a wonderful ‘ceilidh’ in the truest sense of the word, a gathering of fine people and the sharing of good spirits. It marked the first of what we trust will be many other great get-togethers as our Isle of Harris Gin makes its mark on the city.
To build on this positive new beginning, we’re now looking for the ‘Harris Ambassador To London’ to help take our work into the heart of its thriving culinary and cocktail scene. For the right person, it is a rare opportunity to represent the distillery and build on our successes so far.
We’re searching for someone special, who knows and loves the London scene and yet reflects the special characteristics of our island. So please help us find them by spreading the word and sharing news of our search far and wide. It could be the best new job in this big, big city.
